Vaccine Setup

The Vaccine Setup section is where you input information related to the rabies vaccines your clinic uses. This information is then passed through to the medical record (in checkout) and the rabies certificate.

To create a rabies vaccine, click the + Create New Allotment button,and input the manufacturer, product, and all the required info.

Product Name for Rabies Vaccines

The CDC requirements for a rabies certificate now include the product name of the vaccine. You can read a bit more about these guidelines on the CDC website here

Another reason for this change is the fact that more combo vaccines such as PureVax are coming on the market. They are a bit more complex, and the product name defines what is included in each vaccine.
Here is an example of what the ‘Product’ is vs. the ‘Manufacturer.’

Go to Settings>Vaccine Setup. Here, you will see you also need to select the product name in order to successfully set up your rabies vaccine.

The product name will print in all places where rabies information is displayed, including the official rabies certificate.

*Note: If your clinic does not issue rabies tags, then you can simply select no tag numbers here.

Creating rabies vaccines

*When your clinic begins a new lot, you can simply edit the existing one. Rabies certificates are “locked” once generated. So, updating this lot will not change past animals.

This is what generating a certificate will look like. Most clinics will only have one lot open at a time. But in this example, there are two different one-year lots being used by the clinic.
Generate the appropriate lot based on which one was administered to the cat/dog.

Generating vaccine certificates

Volume Client Provided Rabies Vaccine

If your clinic offers to administer rabies vaccines provided by a volume client, you can create a second allotment for Rabies 1 Year. Then set a VC Custom Price for the Rabies 1-year vaccine line item.
When generating certificates, you will then generate the appropriate lot information based on which vaccine – yours or theirs – was administered.

Rabies vaccines are unique line items in their ability to produce a rabies certificate. We cannot add a new line item to differentiate between your rabies and the client provided. Your clinic being the one to administer this highly monitored vaccine will need to use the regular Rabies 1 year line item but set up a separate lot for the vaccine provided by the other shelter.
